10 Places to Eat and Drink in Seattle

What's the first thing you think of when you hear 'Seattle?' For me, it was the motherland of Starbucks and fishmongers throwing huge fish across a market. While I did see both of those, I always saw the up and coming culinary scene of this Pacific Northwest city. 

 In our three days there, we landed on foodie gems each day. Everything from robust espresso shots and decadent desserts to savory entrees filled our bellies. We didn’t have time to hit everywhere that was recommended to us which just means we have another reason to go back.


Here is everywhere we ate and loved in Seattle. 

Mezcaleria Oaxaca

422 E. Pine St. Seattle, wa

With a sister location in Queen Anne, Mezcaleria Oaxaca serves up a classic Oaxacan cuisine. The family run restaurant and bar is filled with different kinds of mezcal as well as classic tequila. You can see tortillas being made while you sit at the bar which really adds to the authenticity of the place. We visited at night but have heard good things about their rooftop happy hours.

The Wandering Goose

403 15th ave, seattle, wa

Serving brunch with a twist to classic dining service, The Wandering Goose runs on etiquette. You place an order then seat yourself. In the meantime, you stand in line with your mouth watering from all the plates passing by. Biscuits, gravy and fried chicken are staple items in this Southern comfort food joint.

General Porpoise Donuts

Light, fluffy, sweet treats and robust espresso are perfect for any time of day. The vanilla custard filled donut with a macchiato weas the perfect start to my Monday. Other favorite flavors include the lemon curd, honey yogurt and Hawaiian jam.

Buddha Ruksa

A local gem for quality, delicious Thai food. A cozy, wood-panel dining room serving all the classic Thai dishes you can imagine. The space is dimly lit but still feels inviting. A zen space to enjoy a nice meal.

The Crumpet Shop

If you’re heading to Pike Place Market, you have to stop in here. This UK griddle cake comes in both sweet and savory options. Think English muffins meet biscuits to create a crispy outside with a fluffy inside then topped with your choice of topping. The salmon cream cheese and cucumber was light and tasty.  I expected lox on top of a cream cheese spread but the salmon was actually mixed in and better than I expected.

Piroshky Piroshky

My first attempt to try these Russian meat pies was blocked by a rainstorm that I wasn’t trying to sit in. I came back the next day and the line was shorter and very quick. I went with the meat and cheese one. The sweet options were tempting but after a morning of donuts and ice cream, I needed a savory bite.

Salt and Straw

I tried Salt and Straw for the first time in Los Angeles last summer and OMG. I waited almost an hour and did not regret it one bit. Luckily, this Portland based creamery has a location in Capitol Hill. You can try any flavor and as many as you want until you find the right one. Their Pots of Gold literally tastes like Lucky Charms cereal. The waffle cones are made right in front of you and to me- they’re just as major as the ice cream itself.

Fremont Brewing Company

1050 N. 34th St., seattle, wa

I’m more of wine and cocktail gal but the Fremont Brewery was a fun experience. I got a flight of 5 beers and found some I liked and some I’d be okay never tasting again. A large chalkboard gives you snippet descriptions of all the beers on tap which are all accurate. The Gose and the UPA were faves of mine, both pale ales with fruity undertones.

Stone Way Café

What started out as a pit stop on the way to dinner turned into an hour inside Stone Way sipping wine and beer and enjoying the atmosphere. They have wines by the glass, a few beers on tap and a menu filled with items like roasted butternut and  kale tacos and pulled pork tortas.  A great spot for an afternoon break or a chill dinner alone or with friends.

 

What we Loved: Chateau St. Michele Riesling 

The Red Door

The Red Door is a casual spot for food and drinks. The menu is simple but the food is flavorful and the outdoor seating is a good vibe. They have game nights on Monday where guests can bring their own board games so if you're new to the area and looking to socialize, that's a start. I had the mushroom and gruyere burger which I enjoyed but my favorite part of the meal was the Gochujang wings. They have a serious kick that lingers but the flavor profile was spot on. 

Seattle The Red Door

Seattle was such a fun city I'd love to explore new places and different neighborhoods next time. My next trip around I'm making it a point to stop at Molly Moon's Creamery, Top Pot Donuts and any of Renee Erickson's establishments.
