Mother's Day

Mother's Day

I had to work this morning but I got lucky with a good shift and was out by 4:30. I missed brunch with my brother and my mom but made up for it with 7:30pm reservations at Mario's Tutto Bene in downtown Union. This little gem is turning into a regular spot for my family...can't get enough of good Italian cooking. I had already decided on my meal before I got there. Don't judge. I chose the lasagna over the eggplant parmigiana my last visit and made it a mission to eventually try the eggplant. Unfortunately, today was not the day, there was a special Mother's Day menu so I improvised. I decided to try something new, veal rollatini. My brother made it his job to guilt trip me about how the calf didn't have a chance to live it's life yet which was a really weird(and short) conversation but I got it anyway. It was stuffed with mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, and asparagus. I'd give it a 7/10. The wine sauce was great but the meat wasn't as tender as I would have wished.

Mom got the flounder Francese and loved every piece of it. I had a bite and agreed the fish was very well-seasoned.

My brother went with lobster ravioli. The cheese was excessive but he picked it off no problem so that wasn't a big deal. The plate was too rich in my opinion but the flavor of the Alfredo sauce worked well with the lobster.

I noticed the three of us don't go out together as much as we should so I'm making it  a point to fix that. It was a stress-free evening with great food and even better company. I plan on making another visit for the eggplant parmigiana but not for a while, I have to work on fitting into my bathing suit for next months’ vacation.
